Keat Hong Zone 7 Lantern Festival Celebration

Our club was invited to join in the Keat Hong Zone 7 Lantern Festival Celebration on 10th Sept outside Lam Soon Community Centre. We set up a booth to reach out to the residents and share with them our knowledge and experience in making lemongrass-infused oil for dengue prevention. There was a good response from the residents who showed interest and asked questions in the self-made mosquito repellent.

Environmental Science Fair 2011 / Green Competition

We felt privileged to have the opportunity to participate in the Environmental Science Fair 2011 and Green Competition on 9th Sept at the Commonwealth Secondary School. We set up a booth to educate the public on the use of lemon grass as mosquito repellent for dengue prevention, and a station to showcase the game that our members created. Our members reached out to public and shared with them our knowledge and experience in making lemongrass-infused oil for dengue prevention. For both the booth and the game competitions, we were glad to have attained Merit Awards from the judges.

Add: Besides SEC, representatives from 5 Compassion and Infocomm Club also participated in the event by showcase their environmental science project (Water Conservation) and photographs related to dengue prevention respectively.

Preparation for Learning Festival

Today, we prepared for our learning festival which will be held tommorow. 8 members will be involved in taking charge of the exhibition and activity booths. Training in presentation skills were given to the the members.

The KG Visit

Our club carried out educational and fun activities for the kindergarden kids at the Happernings during their visit in our school. There were three stations, for the making of seed pockets, leaf trace art and potpourri respectively. Our members carried out demo and guided the kids during the activities. We hope they enjoyed the activities and brought back many sweet memories.

Green Wave Day

We commemorated Green Wave Day on Friday, 20th May 2011. The plant watering ceremony was carried out on the stage at 10am on that day. Our principal and vice-principal, Mdm Ng and Mdm Rahima , as well as Mdm Siti and her Brownies representatives,and representatives from our club were invited to the stage for the watering of the four bean plants.

In line with the celebration, on 16th May, P1 & P2 teachers guided their pupils in making pocket gardens during SMART time. The pupils planted green bean seeds in small plastic bags, and observed how the seeds germinate and become plants. P3 & P4 pupils also did the same activity during SMART period on 16th May. Instead of pocket garden, they did mini green bean terrarium. Each group used the given materials and some pebbles as decorative material. All the pupils took part in the Green Wave Day activity by watering their pocket gardens or green bean terrariums at 10.00am, 20th May.
